This is a goofy "deal" I think all it does is delay the option, not get rid of it..

Saying the deal is based on trust sets the Pubbies up for getting the shaft whenever the democrats don't like a Constitution oriented nominee. Having Byrd spewing is all one need know to realize that the Pubbies trust the democrats well beyond their due.

Doesn't it give the dems more time to work on spineless pubbies before the Byrd option comes up again?

It sounds like the Democrats blinked. I really wanted payback for the last couple of years of obstruction, but maybe this is the best way. Now that they know that the republicans are ready to pull the trigger maybe we don't need to.

Bingo! The Dems knew they were going to lose so they're keeping the filibuster option in place for possible future use -- like Supreme Court nominations. It's a "win" (of sorts) for the GOP but it insures that the issue will come up again.

I'd have preferred an all out win but I can live with this -- grudgingly -- in the short term. The gnashing of teeth over at DU will be all the evidence we need that this was less than the disaster a lot of us feared. An incremental win is still a win, it's just a lot less tasty.
