Thanks for being the voice of reason. Over on DU they are absolutely livid at this deal. If they hate it then it must be good for us.

Well .. you can be guaranteed McCain has just totally ticked off the base. How does he plan to run for president without us ..??

That was the gist of my email to McLame a few minutes ago...He can forget about asking me for money. Just forget it. (In retrospect, I kind of wish I hadn't said that...I'd like for him to WASTE his postage on sending me stuff that I'll use as camping toilet paper.)

"Do you think any deal was done without the consent of the President?"

Do I think that they consulted Bush?

I doubt it. Besides they routinely sell him out. I doubt that they needed to consult him and get his approval to sell him out. NOTHING was gained here. ALLOT was lost. Bush has NO REASON to WANT THIS. So, no I don't believe Bush was behind this or consulted.

Pardon me, but you haven't been here a year.
Lots of folks, myself included, worked their butts off delivering the primary, W and the Congress.
Show some respect.

Yes, but she isn't ripe for SCOTUS. She will be but when she is you can bet your last dollar that the democrats will fillibuster, slander, lie, cheat and break their word to keep her off the court. The notion that this makes her a lock is simply wishful thinking.

I don't understand why your idea (having a GOP conservative filibuster brown) this will work. Sorry, I'm a little slow.

Now Lindasy Graham is on

I turned on CNN becuase the Factor is talking about Gitmo

"The liberals are in charge of the Senate now"

McCain's in charge of the Senate now. He figured out that he was never going to take over the Republican caucus, so now he's chairing a "center"/left alliance.

Today's deal shows that Bill Frist has no control over the Senate. McCain is calling the shots.

I'm starting to wonder if he might pull a third party stunt in 2008.

I said at the time of the Lott mess, that Frist was even WORSE than Lott had ever dreamed of being. Frost NEVER has led ANYTHING/ANYWHERE, as the Majority Leader. He wants to be president, but he'd better accept the fact that he'll NEVER rise any higher than where he is right now...KKK Byrd's whipping boy.

This sentence is why it was a loss. They got 6 Republicans to VOW not to ever vote for an end to a future filibuster. In other words, the Dems now have an ironclad agreement that gives them the right of rejection on any and all future Supreme Court nominees.

Target them for re-election and VOTE THEM OUT!!!

After we get the up-down vote on these first candidates, and then they threaten filibuster again, can we not go nuclear for the same reason we were going to this time, but with these judges confirmed?

What is the big deal?

They know Frist's achilles heel. He cant run for Prez and appear obstructionist by nuking this 'great deal' of compromise. MSM will castigate him for screwing with these 'statesmen's ' deal.

This allows the Dems room to filibuster 4 of 7 nominees. What Frist forgets (while trying to appear mainstream) is he has no pissed off the base.

Maybe he can run for Prez as a Dem.

if they had gone through with the constitutional option they would have had most of them confirmed.

Anything in this "deal" which says we won't go nuclear at some future point? Am I missing something?

You must have missed the earlier thread. The Rogue Republicans sold out the Republican Party and rolled over for the Democrats, in exchange for NOTHING.Read it and weep

Deal averts filibuster showdown

"Under the agreement, Democrats would pledge not to filibuster any of Bush’s future appeals court or Supreme Court nominees except in “extraordinary circumstances.”

For their part, Republicans agreed not to support an attempt to strip Democrats of their right to block votes.

Officials from both parties said the agreement would clear the way for yes or no votes on some of Bush’s nominees but make no guarantee. "
