Has anyone actually gotten a response from a "not one more dime" letter?

Curious as to how they react to those.

I read it saying that the Demagogues retain all their options but provide a meaningless promise only to filibuster in "extraordinary" circumstances. Since we know how freely they throw around the adjective 'extreme' for almost any Bush nominee, it is clear that any nomination COULD be defined by them as an 'extraordinary' circumstance (anything 'extreme' is certainly in some sense 'extraordinary' and they get to make the call).

The big question now, it seems to me, is whether the RINO "sense of the deal" is that THEY too get to make a judgment about whether the Demagogues are correct in judging any particular 'extraordinary' circumstances, i.e, will the RINOs allow themselves to say the Ds were wrong to invoke EC and filibuster a nominee, and that invalidates the whole deal so that the "constitutional option" is back on the table. Unless the RINOs allow themselves that option they have given the ball (at least on judicial nominations) to the Ds for the remainder of the 109th Congress.

Even if the RINOs have allowed themselves that out, it does not make the whole thing any more palatable, for it then puts McPain and friends in control of all judicial confirmations.... they have broken free of normal "party discipline" to a startling degree here, for now the WH will either have to clear judicial nominees with the RINOs in advance, or else risk lacking the votes to meet a D. filibuster with the "constitutional option."

That's how I read it, based on the limited info available so far.

If McCain runs for Senate and gets the nomination, we need to donate to the Dem who runs against him. We need to make an example of him.

The PTB need to be aware of their political vulnerabilities and be shown that they can be had by the people as well as by special interests.

The film of this meeting can be used politically against each and every one of the RINOs and we should be the ones to do it.

Oh, but McCain said "Frist was OK with this."

Nope .. Frist said he was not a party to this agreement

he didn't have the votes because of the 7 Republicans

What? I thought Frist had the votes? He's been telling us for HOW LONG now that he's going to "pull the trigger"?

He can't pull the trigger, until the weapon is loaded. There has been no cloture vote for him to pull the trigger.

And Frist stood by and was not able to stop this.

That's the big thing, he wasn't able to control the republican caucus on the big issues, he can't lead, and therefore he's useless.

The nuke option isn't off the table unless you've read something I haven't. I guess we'll know for sure next month when Rehnquist retires. Then I guess we can argue about "extraordinary circumstances."

I see this as nothing more than a delay it what would have happened tomorrow. As long as the Democrats are willing to let our judges be confirmed in exchange for a delay, I can't help but see this in favorable terms.

When we throw a judge overboard, I'm right there with ya.

For the life of me I don't know why the Republicans caved in to these Rats. What or who are they afraid of? Howard Dean?

This reminds me of former Kansas City Chiefs coach (and current San Diego Charger coach) Marty Schottenheimer, when coaching a Monday night game against the Raiders. The Raiders had a lead, were caught by the Chiefs, went to overtime, got possession, and had to punt.

Well, at the time, the Chiefs had this devastating kick/punt return specialist named Tamarick Vanover. Everyone kicked away from this guy...everyone, except for the Raidahs. They kicked to him, and he ran it all the way back. He was so emotional that he cried in the endzone, and when the reporter interviewed him after the game.

But the real memorable quote came from Marty (who, now that I think of it, looks a lot like Dingy Harry Reid), who was jubilant, as if he'd won a Super Bowl (yeah, rite), and gave this memorable (and now, applicable) quote: "I TOLD YOU THEY'D F**KING FOLD!!!"

Actually both. They are reading articles that say the Dems lost and they are trying to turn it around to make it seem like they won. They are basically not sure if they won or lost.

Hon, you don't understand politics.
Really.
Less said, the better. You aren't adding anything to the discussion other than pointing out you don't understand how things work in DC.

Hugh Hewitt should be foaming at the mouth right now, but his website has very little about this.

But you are missing the point: the Rinos have commited to voting agisnt the rule change no matter what the democrats do.

It is a two part agreement, the dems do something (not filibuster) and the republicans do something in return (not nuke). If the Dems break their part, we are not responsible for our part. The parties involved know what they were promised, and will know if the promise was broken.

In the presser, two of the Republicans who signed the agreement specifically said that they could go nuclear in the future if the agreement was not honored (Dewine said it and one other)

I am concerned that President Bush will nominate a "MODERATE" to the Supreme Court. This means that Roe V Wade will be the law of the land. Also with new "MODERATES" on the Supreme Court, gay marriage will be allowed. Do you think after this cave in by the Republicans that they would have the courage to call for a Constitution amendment to protect marriage? I don't think so. Remember, President Bush wants his Social Security Reform legacy. Finally the Dems are delighted because this alienates the Republicans base. President Bush would have LOST Ohio if it were not for the conservative Christian vote.

the Dems definitely blinked. Owen and Brown are potential SC nominees, which is what this is all about. The Dems just agreed they need a vote. They will likely get a comfortable confirmation win, making it MUCH harder for the Dems to stop them for the SC. Nuclear option would have been more fun, but at least the Dem base is demoralized that they approved these nominees rather than ticked off at us.

In the meantime, we still need to keep the pressure on this "gang of 7" and work for their defeat, especially Dewine and Graham.

I don't agree with your lawyer-like analysis of things. This is based on a good faith understanding. It is not enforceable in court, by the senate parliamentarian, or anywhere else... so hyper-technical readings are of little import. If the Pubbies feel the Dems are not living up to the spirit of the deal reached, then we're right back to square one. Lindsey Graham, a signatory, has already made that quite clear.

They signed the deal. The language is clear. If they don't live up to the language their words are no longer worth spit. Every republican signee is committed to opposing the "nuclear option" in this Congress. The words can't be read any other way.

Folks who give their word and then break it ain't worth spit.
