If the GOP does pull the nuclear option off, I wonder whether Bill Frist will be getting any apologies from the FReepers who bashed him incessantly throughout this ordeal?

He won't need apologies, but he will need support, IMO.

LOL, I was just thinking of the Liberals charges that we would be killing trees to publish volumes about their treason!

and the energy spent arguing over application of a label passes for reasoned discourse about the underlying issue(s).

I don't recall making such a charge.

The reason energy is expended is because the "label" is a flimsy attempt to weaken the Senate majority Leader during a crucial period. I do not believe anyone has made the case it passes for dialogue on the state of the filibuster.

When I believe someone's character is unfairly impugned, I rise to their defense. That is the sum of what you see in this back and forth dialogue. You can, of course, skip over it if it serves no interest.

He just seemed at the start to have some physical difficulty, very slight, with some words.

Maybe the font was to small!

I didn't say you did.

Grassley- responsibility of Senators has been threatened by actions of Democrat leadership.

The Constitution is clear on the role of the senate in the confirmation process.

Would someone please tell me what the real story is when we hear Dems say that Pubbies "filibustered" some of Clinton's nominees and now it is "payback" time. Thanks.

I may have incomplete knowledge on this, but I am aware of only one case that comes close to a nominee being Filibustered on the Senate Floor and that was Abe Fortas who was on the Supremem Court and Pres Lyndon Johnson nominated him for the Chief Justice position. However he had accepted outside income, which he was not suppose to do, that generated opposition from both parties, before the vote was taken, Johnson withdrew the nomination.

The Clinton nominees never made it to the Senate Floor, they were not sent to the floor because of opposition of members of the Judiciary committee, majority of the committee were Republicans.

The filibuster ends because the Dems finally see the reality of their obstructionist position ...

No

That particular filibuster does not end until the next Democrat is elected President. Why don't you realize we are at war ?

Grassley- Results of last election when approval of judges important issue to the electorate, that the Democrats are now rejecting the will of the American people.

I'll donate to Grassley's campaign fund if he mentions daschle. LOL

Grassley- Democrats will not allow him his rights as a senator to vote.

Grassley is soft spoken but doing well.

this isn't about a rules change, only restoring the tradition of the senate for 200 years. No one ever then used minority of free speech arguments being violated.

The tit-for-tat argument is that many of Clinton's nominees were not handled by the Judiciary Committee (were returned to the president), or were rejected by the Senate.

The DEMs feel justified in turnabout. Statistics in link below ...

RL31635 - February 23, 2004 - Judicial Nomination Statistics http://www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/RL31635.pdf

ZERO nominees, until 2003, when available for a vote, were refused votes by the entire Senate.
