If you look at the end of the Soviet Empire, everyone who wasn't on the government gravy train, and many who were, were either actively monkeywrenching the system, or looking the other way when it happened.
That is the likely outcome in the U.S.: Not a shooting war, but an erosion of the ability of the state to keep competent people enforcing intrusive laws and regulations.
IRS employees already inbreed because humans won't touch them. Cops have a distinct culture of casual fraud, drinking, divorce and suicide. Just give a JBT a shove on his way down, and pretty soon, they will have to lower standards to the point that FLEAs will be neutered by ineffictiveness.

I still object to the government-imposed requirement that tells me that I have to pass through a metal detector if I want to fly on a commercial airplane. I still long for those halcyon days (pre-1972, IIRC) when anyone could wander into an airport waiting area without having to pass through a metal detector.
And, though I am way too youpng to remember it, I think there were days before the Government enslaved all of us by requiring us to wear seat belts during take-off and landings of commercial aircraft. Oh, how I long for those days!
