Fred Barns put it this way. Democraters want super majority. Republicans wnat simple majority. But this dirty-dozen want to control all by themselves. It won't work.
That's the perspective when looking from the "confirmation" end. But it is instructive to also look at nominations from the "rejection" end. The equation looks different, but it better represents what is going on.

In fact, before "cloture" was invented in 1917, a SINGLE Senator could reject, by withholding unanimous consent (or could he?).
The only correct solution is that rejection, like confirmation, requires a simple majority.
