I just clicked on this topic because it was on the News page, and I must say I was pretty surprised that anyone would just flat out write, nice and simple, "I like porn" and end it with a period.
You are not kind of embarrassed about it or anything? You say so on a public forum, presumably where you will hang out and discuss various other topics, and you feel quite comfortable just to throw that out there, rather matter of fact?
I guess I am naive, I have never gone searching for porn on the Internet, and I hear it is out there plenty, and I have never accidental run across porn on the Internet either, Google must be doing a good job for me.
I participated in the earliest of early bulletin boards, I before windows was even invented, probably 1982 or 1983. In all that time I have never had the desire to go looking for porn, and I can't understand anyone who would just come flat out and defend pornography.
I am not an expert, oh yes I have read Playboy and Penthouse in my younger years, and once my husband brought home a porn tape and we turned it of after 10 minutes, it was disgusting, and it got thrown out. I am not enough of a consumer to probably make this next statement, don't you think the world would be a better place without pornography? I saw specials on TV about the pornography actors and actresses and they have horrible lives. On tv this one actress described a sex act involving multiple male partners that was really painful, how can things like this turn you on????? Instead of watching fantasy why don't you do more of the real thing? I can't see one single good thing about porn, not one and I would not mind seeing it banned. It has no redeeming value and I DO believe that constant viewing "warps" people. I think Ted Bundy was right about porn.

BTW, Bundy totally manipulated Dobson in that interview - he told him what he wanted to hear.

don't you think the world would be a better place without pornography? Probably. The world would be better off without many things. Alcohol. Tobacco. Rap music. That doesn't mean the government should ban those things.

She's a grownup. Unless someone is holding a gun to her head, she is free to quit porn at any time.

You are basically asking government to use its power to enforce your view of what is positive and what isn't.
I see no redeeming value in black licorice. Should government ban that, too?

Rather, the world would be a better place if people evolved beyond pornography. That will not be accompolished by merely banning pornography.
This is quite a fascinating thread, with interesting comments. If you see human civilization as an evolving process, we have been moving away from our natural inclinations. It's no longer acceptable to take multiple preteen wives. It's no longer acceptable for armies to rape women. It's no longer acceptable to bathe with younger naked boys. Etc.
Yes, our laws were more strict in the past, but laws do not reflect a culture's mindset (just look to Islam as an example). 30 years ago, it was acceptable for male employers to sneak a grope here and there... it is not now. That is a fact.
However, in the recent times, there seems to be a trend to celebrate savageness... to turn the clock back on progress and civilization, to go back to the way things are because it's "natural".
The last 2.5 years of a 3-year relationship with a man who would be called quite handsome by any standard, I did not have any desire for him at all. I had almost no respect for him and never saw him as an equal; on a subconcious level, this prevented me from being truly attracted to him. It took the test case of a man with an amazing mind to get me to realize that my sexuality never went away; it was inseparably linked to the other person's intelligence and personality.
The point being, I would like to see people to move away from savageness, but this isn't going to happen any time soon; banning pornography would have the same effect as cornering a wounded animal.
