"Again, this isn't about Lott."

That's what we agree on. I'm not trying to excuse anyone and I'll be as angry as anyone if there ends up being one bit of compromise over this filibustering. But to keep perspective, I am pointing out the egotistical natures of the Senator's and their lapse in decency if their position of power is furthered by a lapse. That just makes the scene more understandable to me; it doesn't make it any more acceptable.

MG, I had forgotten that bit of history.

A good Freeper NEVER forgets something like that -- or loses a bookmark they might be able to use later on. :-)

Sen Nelson (D) confessed McCain was definitly part of the group and he IMPLIED Lott was part of the Cabal of Cowards.

But Nelson said Lott missed the last few meetings.

We need to find out and contact these cowards to let them know they can not hide behind the MSM protection.

Country Club Cowards will be revealed.

Exactly. We have 55, we need five more GOOD guys and 5 more GOOD guys to replace the 5 ----heads.

So we need 10.

In the case of Lott, yes, it could be personal. I just don't think the rest of the Senators give a damn that the person they helped defeat as majority leader was replaced by Frist. I don't believe that is influencing their actions at all. It's all about power and MSM fawning for these RINO's.

I mean, they might wish THEY were majority leader but that is the usual backbiting you'll find under any circumstance having nothing to do with Lott's demotion.

According to nelson on hanity the Cowardly Six are meeting to compromise by allowing "some" to pass but some "extreme" (aka conservatives) candidates to continue to be blocked by an unconstitutional minority.

I can't see how an up or down vote is compromisable. It a candate is that extreme then a bipartisan (real not "cower to democrats equals bipartisan" bipartisan) majority vote would not be difficult to obtain.

OH---I apologize then, but still he had all that POWER, and he is working for a compromise instead of talking to Reid and telling Reid to shut up and go back to Tumbleweed!

I know, I am talking crazy, but these dems and rinos are driving me crazy...

Seriesly, though, if Ben Nelson thinks they should get an up or down vote, then he should be included in on the side of the ledger that would "push the button" on the Byrd option, which would mean we could lose one more Pubbie and be alright....

If he means it---that would happen, but I bet he wouldn't vote with the Pubbies like McCain is gonna vote with the dems....

How about if Hatch gets up on the Senate floor tomorrow and says---we have one that is smart enough to cross the aisle and vote for the "constitutional option" all we need are a few more SMART dems or a few less RINOS and we will be alright!

I won't blame Bush if 6 Senators flip either. It seems to me that the President has a fair grip on those Senators that he has most directly helped (the Colemans, Thunes, etc.). I will blame those who betray the man responsible for their majority position and spoils though.

Senator Nelson made it very clear he was at the meeting with the Cabal of Cowards. He also made it clear with would not reveal the Cowardly Six republicans.

He only gave up the name of McCain with certainty.

The fact that a Democrat is trying to give cover to republicans instead of openly proclaiming LOUNDLY that Sen. "X" is a republican siding with democrats, speaks VOLUMES.

This is pure dirty backroom politics.

Well, if Nelson agrees, what's the damn holdup with that group getting an agreement that works for US?

Who are the Democrats.

Nelson has a tough election in '06 in a state Bush won. he doesn't want to go on record with a vote. On one side the Democrats will destroy him if he sides with us. He votes against us and he'll lose in '06 guarenteed. That is why you see red state Dems desperate to stop the vote. The Party will not allow them to split on this issue, but they know it can likely destroy their election options.

That is why this vote MUST be taken. Make these Senators answer to their constituents.

I bet Olympia Snow is part of the cabal of country club cowards.

Master of the obvious. ;-) McCain, Chaffee and Snowe are pretty much givens. Collins is a 60-40 bet (more likely to side with DEM than GOP on this).

In the end, I think all this side deal is a way for many Senators to spend time, vent frustration, comiserate, plot, socialize, "be collegial," keep the fences in good mend, and otherwise be unproductive. Frist will make them an offer that they will find quite agreeable, and they will vote on the nominee. I don't know why, but I think this nomination is going to work out just fine. Rumors of side deals will feed the media, but won't amount to a hill of beans.

Well, this is true.......LOL.

But I'm having a "Bolton-Lugar-Biden-Voinovich" moment here; you know, where we could SEE it and then it was gone?

It is probably also why those six RINOs are concealing their names.

IMO, these nominees are confirmed IF we burst every single trial balloon the RINO's send up.

I think they are testing our will, and I assure them, I WILL contribute to their defeat even if it means a Dem in office. DeWine, for example, if a fool if he thinks this will fly with an election '06. Ditto hagel.
