Perhaps it is McConnell's last desperate attempt to manage the media perspective and scare another RINO into submission.

I think this whole thing has been a monumental fight for public perception. We had to win that. And I think I just read that the polls finally broke in our favor...so now is go time.

If Lieberman votes with us, I'm going to have to take back one more mean thing I've said about him. I'm actually starting to respect the guy again. Yikes!
