Nine far right activists suspected of plotting to attack holy East Jerusalem site with issile, explosive model airplane; suspects attorney says Shin Bet undercover agent attempted to persuade suspects to purchase missile
Has the Shin Bet actually foiled attempts to carry out terror attacks on the Temple Mount or is the affair indicative of the hysteria within the security forces regarding their battle against anti-disengagement right-wing activists?
The Shin Bet and Israel Police detained two groups of far right activists who plotted to carry out terror attacks on the Temple Mount as part of the anti-disengagement efforts, it was released for publication Sunday.
The security establishment suspects one group planned to use grenades and a Lau missile in the attack, while the other planned to attack the holy site with an explosive model airplane.
All in all, nine people have been arrested.
The case raises some difficult questions regarding the validity of the security forces suspicions, as security officials admit the plans to attack the Temple Mount were by no means in their operational phase.
Secondly, no weapons or ammunition of any kind were found during searches of the nine suspects - they have all been released on bail and are under house arrest, and no indictments have been filed in the case as of yet.
The case strengthens right-wing claims that the Shin Bet and Israel Police are exaggerating in their efforts to prevent anti-disengagement activity, so much so that the freedom of expression is being suppressed.

WARNING: This is a high volume ping list
With great fanfare, the police announced today that it had broken up two "Jewish conspiracies" to attack the Temple Mount mosques - plots that never passed the talking stage.
The police were forced to admit that no indictments would be handed down, and no weapons were found in their possession. In addition, none of the nine "suspects" were kept in jail - though they face various restrictions on their mobility for the coming weeks.
Members of one "cell" discussed attacking the Dome of the Rock with missiles, but never acquired the weapons or the know-how to perpetrate the attack. Another man, Ilan Hirshfeld of Raanana - a 61-year-old retired air-conditioner retailer - was interrogated for several hours last month after he asked his employees if it was possible to install a camera aboard a drone flying over the Temple Mount.
The police originally scheduled a press conference this afternoon to formally release the gag orders on the story. They canceled it, however, raising suspicions that the plots were never particularly serious in the first place.
Anti-disengagement groups responded to Hirschfeld's brief arrest last month by accusing the government of trying to shut right-wing mouths. "His arrest is an attempt to de-legitimize him and you and me," wrote Cities of Israel spokesperson Susie Dym to her email list of pro-Land of Israel supporters. "This is a grave escalation on the part of the Shabak (General Security Service)."
Hirschfeld's "brutal arrest by Israeli intelligence officers," wrote a spokesman for the Hevron Jewish Community, "can only be seen as part of Sharon's dictatorial policies, attempting to breed fear and distrust. [We] vehemently protest the obvious beginning of a renewed 'witch hunt' aimed at paralyzing all protests against the planned expulsion of over 9,000 Jews from their homes in Gush Katif and the northern Shomron."
His two novels are highly recommended reading!
Don't they already arrest Jews for praying on the Temple Mount?
Gee, I discussed nuking Moscow quite a bit when in high school and college, but its kinda' moot without the hardware.
Methinks that this is all part of a carefully orchestrated campaign to paint any opposition to the Gaza withdrawal as being "crazy" or "ultra religious" or "right wing wackos," etc.
Sounds like the following in the first article has some merit -
The case strengthens right-wing claims that the Shin Bet and Israel Police are exaggerating in their efforts to prevent anti-disengagement activity, so much so that the freedom of expression is being suppressed.
When is disengagement officially scheduled to begin? COnsidering all that is going on, do they even have a date at this point?
Shoot, then they'd have to arrest a lot of Christians that pray for Jerusalem, Israel, protection of Israel from her enemies, etc.
The more successful the resistance to the upcoming actions regarding Gaza, the more desperate the attempts on the religious. I was well acquainted with Rabbi Ginzburg of Gal Einai at that time. He was put into administrative detention for a speech he made that the government did not like. The women in Green were beaten at a protest by the police (no nametags, gloves, dark glasses). Then the government tried the women for attacking the police.
What Sharon is doing is hardly new. The question I have, is that I do not know how deep this goes. Obviously, the police enjoy these tactics, but how far up the political food chain does this go? Sharon is connected to it. Does it mean that he was connected to it during that time as well? Were his contacts with the religious community merely Orwellian doublespeak? Did someone "get" to him and compromise him?
There is too much intrigue here. It seems thought, to have been this way for a very long time.
Did these "Jewish conspiracies" involve fluoride and the World Banking System???
Somebody call Buchanan!

This was written by a man I had some contacts with back in the late 90's, a retired LASD Second Amendment advocate. The political scenario is mirrored perfectly in the contention with the Settlers.

But of course, that's just me, the extreme Christian Zionist.

"Methinks that this is all part of a carefully orchestrated campaign to paint any opposition to the Gaza withdrawal as being "crazy" or "ultra religious" or "right wing wackos," etc."
You are surely correct. The care that is taken in always adding the term "extremists" "ulta religious" to every report of opposition can be attributed only to a political agenda. It's PR baloney to try to change public opinion about the population transfer idea. The press has been shameless in its promotion of the idea that those who disagree are "extremists."
The streets and homes of all Israel are teeming with everyday, middle of the road folks who are heartsick to see their fellow countrymen evicted from their homes and their communities destroyed.
Orange banners, orange shirts, orange bracelets, the symbols of those opposed to evicting the families of Gaza, can be seen in large numbers everywhere in Israel, displayed by those from all of Israeli society.
The Israeli government surely knows that what it is doing it wrong and that those who oppose the plan are right. They cannot give a substantive explanation about how this will help. Just last year Sharon said that Gaza was as important strategically as Tel Aviv.
The U.S. has pressured Sharon to do this; this plan benefits no one but terrorists. It should be scrapped. Hamas is crowing that through their evil mass murders of well over 1,000 Jews they have accomplished the evacuation of Jews from Gaza. It's no accident that Hamas' popularity is up among the Arabs. Greater terror will follow.
