Border Security

Illegal immigration has long been a way for poverty-stricken people to seek greater opportunity. But in this age of international terrorism, illegal immigration is a much more pressing concern -- a matter of national security. We must control our borders and know who is coming into our country.

Former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Admiral James M. Loy appeared before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in February to counsel the Committee about improving immigration control at our nation's borders.

He delivered a message that was not given wide media coverage but one that many Americans already knew.

"Recent information from ongoing investigations, detentions, and emerging threat streams strongly suggests that al-Qaeda has considered using the Southwest Border to infiltrate the United States," Admiral Loy said.

"Several al-Qaeda leaders believe operatives can pave their way into the country through Mexico and also believe illegal entry is more advantageous than legal entry for operational security reasons."

Admiral Loy warned that the U.S.-Canadian border has vast and difficult terrain that could provide good passageways for terrorists to sneak into our country and wreak havoc.

Border Patrol told to stand down in Arizona
By Jerry Seper
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
U.S. Border Patrol agents have been ordered not to arrest illegal aliens along the section of the Arizona border where protesters patrolled last month because an increase in apprehensions there would prove the effectiveness of Minuteman volunteers, The Washington Times has learned.
More than a dozen agents, all of whom asked not to be identified for fear of retribution, said orders relayed by Border Patrol supervisors at the Naco, Ariz., station made it clear that arrests were "not to go up" along the 23-mile section of border that the volunteers monitored to protest illegal immigration.

I'm sure the word "pave" was supposed to be "pay".

The arrogance of the Bush administration is unbelievable. I thought Bill Clinton was slimy, but the Bush administration will go down in history as one of the most anti American administrations ever. He is presiding over a collapsing nation, he knows it and is proud of it.

Remember, they're just coming here to do the jobs Americans don't want to do.

Border Security = oxymoron under this Administration

George Bush = traitor

His refusal to enforce the law in a time of war certainly points to this. Americans are forced to undergo draconian "security checks" while the flow of illegal aliens from everywhere continues over the border every night.

Is HE the one who has instructed the border patrol to "stand down"? Hopefully we'll find out soon.

Even Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA), an immigrant himself, recently stressed that controlling immigration is first and foremost a federal responsibility: "We have the money to do it. It is not a lack of money. When we can afford the war in Iraq, we can afford to control our own borders."

Even the governator sees this as a priority. Paging President Bush.......hello????

Since when do we need to be in "a time of war" to enforce the law?

What I should have said is that his refusal to enforce the border laws in a time of war is especially egregious. I wanted to use a stronger word, but won't.
