In Michigan?!
I would assume that other than the enclave in Detroit, the people you know are a significant minority where they live, and have assimilated, under heavy pressure. Used to be that way in the Southwest too.
Not anymore.
Most of the hispanic people I know came here during WWII (their families) to build bombers at the big Willow run plant. They came here when America was very patriotic and immigrants at that time were loyal to their new country.
That just not true. I've lived and worked in the San Diego region for nearly three decades, and I'm exposed to and around people of Mexican descent every day. Those who work and pay taxes are vehemently opposed to ILLEGAL immigration as it depresses wages and overburdens the social services on which many of them depend. Those who want open borders are either politicos, have a vested interest in the ILLEGALS being here, or are ILLEGAL him or herself.
The southwest is not pro-ILLEGAL alien.
