SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - The latest shots in the Battle of the Alamo are being aimed at an unlikely target -- the children's cable TV network Nickelodeon.
Keepers of the Texas independence shrine in downtown San Antonio are outraged by a Nickelodeon short that said the 1836 battle there was fought so "white farmers could keep their slaves."
Amazing.
Abraham Lincoln had slaves. N'uff said.
I blocked Nickelodeon from my DirecTV channels several years ago, and stories like this just make me feel even better for having done so.
The claim is true.
Admittedly, it's not a half-truth. It's more like a sixteenth-truth. But it is still true that Mexican intentions to begin enforcing their anti-slavery laws in Texas was a contributing factor in the outbreak of rebellion.
Just as British efforts to enforce long-ignored customs regulations was a contributing factor in the outbreak of the Revolution.
Just more rewriting history by the neo-libs. America bad. Mexico good. Get it. America won the war, but let's find a way to taint it. Sound familiar?

Teaching children that the fight at the Alamo was made so that white people could keep their slaves is totally in line with what is being taught to children in our socialist culture.
You want shock? Go to any elementary or high school and take a look at the texts of any social studies or history class and you will go banannas.
History has been completely distorted to fit the revisions made by textbook publishers. Almost nothing that children learn about history is true.

Really? How did you do it? I guess you get a program package, I didn't know I could block a particular channel!!! I can't believe the hours I've spent fussing at my children about Rug Rats when I could have pre-empted the discussion.
My daughter's Advanced Placement US History(APUSH) class as being taught last week claims that Lincoln had slaves at one time. It also admits that the civil war was never fought over slavery, but it was at times political cover which Lincoln himself discussed in his own writings as a side benefit. She just took the national test and that was not on it of course.
Having seen my cousin's kids watching Rugrats, I knew when my daughter was born that Nickelodeon was NOT acceptable in my house.
You have to set up a channel list, then deselect channels within that.
I suppose it varies for each receiver, but mine is an RCA. Under the main menu options you should be able to find it.
It's very helpful... I have 4 channel lists: "Family", then one for me, one for my wife, and one for our daughter.
