I had a difficult time finding homeowner's insurance due to owning a Pit Bull. I called approximately 10 companies. Of the 10, only two would provide coverage. One policy was heavily loaded, the other was very reasonable.
State Farm was the only carrier I found with reasonable rates.
I do not begrudge insurance carriers for setting restrictions. However, I am surprised at how many carriers simply refuse to offer coverage at all.
I have my auto through GEICO and they subbed me to Assurant for my homeowners because of my two dogs, both rescue. One American Bull Terrier mix (male), and one AMSTAF mix (female), both fixed. I am having to pay an extra $1300 to include liability for the dogs. How much are you getting soaked by State Farm? Perhaps it's time for me to change insurance carriers.
