You win wars on the ground. The army and the Marines have gear issues, not to mention a looming personnel issue. If anything sppeds up our transition out of Iraq it will be due to the recruiting issues that we are now faces.

If there's another war, the Army and Marines can resolve their issues while waiting for the radiation levels to subside. Then they can go in.

Not if the ground is flat, black and glowing...

Iraq should be our last "hearts and minds" campaign. Any wars in the foreseeable future will be "can you hear me now" battles featuring Air and Sea superiority.

Myers is saying that we probably wouldn't be able to execute a made-for-tv-timeline and would have more than minimal collateral damage. IOW, we couldn't run another PC war to appease the press, and the leftists if the troops are too thin. Makes sense to me.

Anybody surprised that MSNBC finds the report "sobering".

We have got to do something about the recruiting issues. Imo the pay in the army and marines simply doesn't reflect the dangers our servicemen now face. I would just keep increasing the pay until we met recruitment goals.

Its the same as the private sector imo, when you can't fill a position you aren't paying enough. Of course its going to cost a lot of money, but I'm sure in our 2.6 trillion dollar federal budget we can find say 50 billion for higher soldier pay.
