PCs seized in missing Ga. bride-to-be case

DULUTH, Ga. (AP) - Investigators have taken several computers from the home of a missing bride-to-be to examine e-mails for clues to her disappearance, police said Friday.

Jennifer Wilbanks, 32, was reported missing Tuesday night by her fiance, John Mason, who said she did not come home after her nightly jog in this Atlanta suburb. He said she left with only her radio and the clothes she had on.

Police found Wilbanks' keys, cash, credit cards and identification in the home she shared with Mason.

Chief Randy Belcher said investigators took three computers from the home and were reviewing e-mails.

Officers who searched Wilbanks' neighborhood were also testing several sweat shirts for any connection to the case, though the police chief seemed doubtful. "We've picked up pieces of clothing all over," he said. Authorities said they considered the case a criminal investigation, but police gave mixed signals about whether they believe Wilbanks may have gotten cold feet.

Maj. Don Woodruff said authorities did not believe Wilbanks was a runaway bride. But under questioning from reporters, Belcher later said: "It's a very real possibility she did get cold feet. I mean, how many husbands have gone out for a pack of cigarettes and not come back?"

Belcher said Mason had told authorities he would decide Friday whether to take a polygraph test.

D,
thanks for the info

Board,
Concerning how many have commented on the boyfriend/soon to be husband on how he acts/looks: I remember a big deal being said in the Peterson case on how he acted. If he acted like he did not care, or did not look worried-heck he was guilty as sin because he has no remorse over her loss.

ON the other hand, if he cried like a spring shower, he was covering up his diabolical scheme with dramatics that did not fool anyone-hang him high.

"He sounded like he really didn't care one damn bit she was missing."

Which would explain his lack luster response.
Greta asked him "What do you think happened to her, John?" He just shrugged his shoulders and said "Dunno."

Relax, this isn't a court appointed jury. It's only a discussion board.

And yet, it is often the case, especially when it is your life on the line. I'm not saying I think he is innocent, I dont like the "way he looks" either, but I can understand his mistrust of the polygraph. Its not what most people here think it is.

FYI, in just about every child abduction case you have heard about in the past few years the first thing the parents do is take a poly.

a polygraph test result is inadmissable in court..

It depends.

From BROWN v. THE STATE, 175 Ga. App. 246

In State v. Chambers, 240 Ga. 76-77 (239 SE2d 324) (1977), the Supreme Court held that "upon express stipulation of the parties that they shall be admissible, the results of a lie detector test shall be admissible as evidence for the jury to attach to them whatever probative value they may find them to have." (Emphasis supplied.)

See also ROBERTSON v. THE STATE, 175 Ga. App. 246 (1997)

21. Absent a stipulation by both parties, polygraph results are not admissible. Willis v. State, 249 Ga. 261, 265 (290 SE2d 87) (1982); State v. Chambers, 240 Ga. 76, 77 (239 SE2d 324) (1977). Inasmuch as the State did not stipulate the admissibility of defendant's polygraph test results, it cannot be said that the trial court erred in refusing to admit those results.

You wouldn't know it from this thread, but I defended Scott Peterson's innocence..
He was convicted on purely circumstantial evidence..
And in my opinion, it was not overwhelming.

You are correct, I read more or less the same thing in several references..
I should have included the exception to the law..

EXCERPT

Both Wilbanks and Mason come from deeply rooted, well-connected families in the area.

The name Mason carries a great deal of weight in Duluth. John Mason is the grandson of the late Dr. Miles H. Mason Jr., who was the first surgeon at Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital. M.H. Mason Elementary is named for the surgeon.

John Mason's father, attorney Claude Mason, was mayor of Duluth from 1978 until 1983 and is now a municipal judge in Norcross.

In Gainesville, Wilbanks' mother, Joyce Parrish, was the longtime owner of Satterfield's, a sporting goods store. Her uncle, Mike Satterfield, is the former fire chief.

he has agreed to take the polygraph but he wants it videotaped and in a neutral place.

Perhaps he's an innocent man who's trying to avoid getting railroaded.

The current mayor of Duluth was on Greta last night and said that this wedding (not mayor's exact words here, but close) was to be one of the biggest events in Duluth this year.

My Spidey-senses are giving me fits. Something stinks and it's not the litterbox...

Home she shared? Did she buy it? Was it her money? Was he deeded on the property?

Unlikely that it was hers in any legal manner, she worked 45 minutes away and commuted. I suspect it us his house, assuming it is not a rental.

Stinky, indeed.

Speaking of Bundy, the wife of a friend was among his (Bundy) first victims in WA. That taught me that the most normal looking among us can be the most deadly.

I saw the fiancee on Greta VS - he was emotionless. At first I thought he was just in shock, but he was just weird...

Yes, he didn't appear to be all that concerned about her whereabouts. Not a bit freaked out.

Off the wall as it may sound, a number of joggers have been killed in California by cougars. At one time there were cougars in Georgia and there may be now. One of them might have nailed her.

The trouble with analyzing this case in light of the Scott Peterson case is that there was no logical explanation for Laci's disappearance and murder other than Scott doing it. Laci, being heavily pregnant at 8 months, was not about to go out jogging on her own.

In this case the young woman, who appears to have been at least somewhat athletic, apparently did go out jogging on her own. That brings in a whole universe of other potential suspects, including cougars. All any of us can reasonably say at this point is her fiancée is a "person of interest," but he can't reasonably be viewed as a suspect yet.

A woman less than a week away from being married, doesnt take off that diamond ring, even for a little jog, especially in a relatively safe neighborhood. And if the cut off hair is hers, I predict a jealous woman is involved

The bug eyes could easily be caused by new contacts she hadn't gotten used to yet.
