A leading panel of experts sharply rebuked NASA yesterday for canceling or delaying Earth-observing space missions, blaming President Bush's moon-Mars initiative for siphoning money from an environment-monitoring satellite system that is "at risk of collapse."
The National Research Council panel called on NASA to reevaluate decisions to cancel projects designed to perform tasks including measuring aerosols in the atmosphere and prolonging data collection by the venerable Landsat system, which has been studying land use and changes in Earth's surface for more than 30 years.

Yep. Mars or Bust!
Why can't this be done privately? We don't need anymore stinkin' gore-sats.
Same here. That moon-Mars initiative is just plain dumb (not to mention an unconstitutional government expenditure).
I wasn't talking about Moon-Mars initiative...
Since we're talking about space -- and I don't know where else to put this -- CBS just reported that one of our satelites "recorded" the incident in Iraq where the Italian reporter and her group were "attacked" at the checkpoint. Remember, she said they were only going 30 MPH?
Well, according to OUR satelite, they were going 60 MPH!!!
So she lied then??? If so Uh oh...
What these lunatics do not understand is that once science is seen as just one more consituency asking for government handouts, the public will turn against them, just as they have turned away from the teaching profession.
Looks like environmentalists want to hijack NASA so they can monitor climate activities on Earth. I like the exploration of Mars better. At least it don't contribute to global warming.
True... To me it is money well spent going to Mars..
