IMO, there is a danger in hyping it concerns anything but S.S. and an Energy policy. If it turns out only to be on those subjects, any positive momentum he might make will be defaulted by the reality the rumors of bigger news were without merit. The Conference would then be a waste.
That said, in what contect were these statements by Barnes and Kristol spoken? I will admit I find it a bit unusual the President is focusing a late night appearance on domestic policy. He isn't known for doing so, outside of the SOU.
I have to agree SS isn't going anywhere and all the pushing in the world isn't going to change any minds right now. If the whole thing is SS with a smattering of energy policy I will be very unhappy.
Today Iraqi has finally formed a Government signalling a real milestone in WOT. I would first like to see Zarqawi captured or killed now before OBL who already has been marginalized.
Well...the context was fuzzy...they were both asked (Bridgette Quinn)what they thought the pres would be talking about- and Kristol brought it up himself- saying it's unusual for the pres to request Primetime and that he (Kristol) thinks he may have a surprise for us. Later Fred was specifically asked if he thought there would be anything unusual about the press conf- he said it wouldn't surprise him if the pres had something up his sleeve.
I guess what struck me was the way they both were grinning.
If this is just hype I'll be MAD- agree that false expectations are bad for business...
