To prove he was actually dead, I think, and to make an example, Percy's severed head was fastened to London Bridge, and his body was cut up, pickled, and put on display in various parts of the realm. Percy's supporters were not pleased, but they seem to have gotten the message. That was then; now, we're more civilized (but for how long?)...
