There are indeed various support groups, and different states have different requirements. I've pinged latina4dubya for input.

I'd say start with looking at the HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association), and if you do decide to homeschool, one of the first things you should do is join the HSLDA. Checkout their "Quick Menu" on the left hand side of their website.

Click the "Getting Started" link and you'll find some encouraging news in a table on the right hand side.
