“They don’t understand that politics is the art of compromise,”

..."artifice" is closer to the truth.

Everyone knows that SS is a Ponzi/pyramid scheme - that the principal collected over all these years has been paid out to beneficiaries or the trust fund raided by Congress. I can't see how it will make things easier to divert money that was going to be paid in to support the boomers into individual retirement accounts for the current payors.

They keep telling us that there won't be enough payors to support the boomers. How will this help?

The Prez is picking up The Hammer in Galveston today after touting his SS reform?

I don't understand this, Galveston County opted out of the Social Security System for its own and is far better than SS.

I thought about taking me a sign:

"A President's Duty is to Protect its Citizens! Secure our Border Mr. President!"

What's going to happen is that the RINOs and RATs will raise the retirement age, and/or increase taxes and Bush is going to sign the damn thing amid pomp and festivities.

Then 10 years down the road liberals are going to whine that Bush "didn't do enough" to fix SS.

Any SS plan that doesn't include personal accounts is just more rearranging the tableware on the Titanic. In addition, the WH has been horribly inept on marketing this plan and have allowed the socialists to monopolize the debate.

In the meantime, I'm already planning my retirement as if SS doesn't exist, which theoretically it doesn't.

"Conservative lawmakers are still bitter about being pressured to vote for the prescription-drug bill that deteriorated the financial future of Medicare."

I'm bitter that they voted for it, too. And I'm bitter that Bush pushed them to do so. It has created a massive unfunded liability - - - giving the Democrats a ready excuse to lobby for higher taxes in coming years. Thanks, President Bush. Not.

I don't even want to hear it. They do it right or they don't do it all. I praise the conservatives for holding firm. NO TAX Increases. Private Accounts. Fix solvency with responsible spending.

How about chalking up failure to a bad solution to the SS shortfall problem?

Let's get all of the names of the "Weasly Wepublicans," who usually prefer to get a few RINOs from mostly liberal states, to be the face of the "Republicans who say that Conservatives and Conservative Lobbying Groups" and "preventing" them from coming up with a bill that some Democrats and liberal MSM will smile upon, so that we, their homeguys and gals can put heat on them (JoAnn Emerson, MO comes to mind).

We have supported them with our time and money, then they stab us in the back when they sip the Beltway Water.

“Rove thinks he’s been beatified by the last election,” Ferrara added.

I know Rove, and I know Ferrara.

Have to go with Ferrara on this one...
