I think that AAC's point was that we must be on the defensive with regard to the ultimate goal of modern Islam--a global caliphate that calls for Shar'iah as the rule of law.
We did not start out calling for the destruction of Islam; Islamist fascists called out for the destruction of the US and indeed began the war by attacking us on 9/11.

Correct - But a cataclysmic war is what Bin Laden believed he was to be the bringer of. We must not fulfill his desires.
Our revenge MUST come in the form of removing the power of fanatic militant Muslims and spreading democracy.
