I found this stat on Ware drafted by the Cowboys yesterday:
As a four year starter, Ware had 27.5 sacks, including 11 as a senior in 2004, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors in the SBC.
It will be so good to get some pressure on the opposing QB, just about any NFL QB will pick you apart if they have the time. Its going to be a better year for us in North Texas. Going from the team to beat for a decade then groveling in a sea of mediocrity sucked.
Seems to me that the Cowboys need some offense.
Year before last, the Cowboys had a very good defense. What a lot of people missed about the great defenses of the early ninties is that the Cowboys offense routinely opened games with a couple of eight minute drives. There were frequently games where the defense only had three plays during the first quarter. Offenses need time to figure out a defense, and while the Cowboys defense was great, they looked even better with an offense that was routinely on the field for forty to 45 minutes a game. While the defensive secondary broke down completely last year (partly because the D-line could get no pressure), it didn't help that the offense was terrible. For example, the Pokes had the Steelers beaten, and committed an unforced (Testeverde hit the ball on his running back's helmet) turnover to hand the Steelers the ball in Cowboy territory. The offense HAS to improve, if they're going to go over .500 ball.
I think Jerry Jones has had about enough of that.
