CHARGES HAVE BEEN DROPPED against Army reservist Patrick Haab who was accused of holding a group of illegals at gunpoint.
My, how astonishing that these law breaking illegals wanted to "press charges", no doubt after learning all about that option from the friendly BP types. Pathetic...

You're right. I heard him on the radio the other day and I think he's believing his press a little too much. Happens all the time.
There never should have been any charges.
Thank God! Everyone here was really, really angry about this.
We do have him, and we're glad. I'm a proud member of his Sheriff's Posse and I've seen him speak many times. He's an honorable guy who supports his people. Sure, he's a publicity hound, but that's part of the reason for his huge popularity. You should also remember that it was the Deputies, not the Sheriff, who arrested Haab. They made a determination at the time that a crime had been committed and took him into custody. The Sheriff himself explained it best:
"He's got his story, we've got ours and that's what the criminal justice system is for -- to get to the bottom of this," Arpaio said.
As for the other comment, here's the complete context:
Arpaio said he stands by his deputies' decision to arrest Haab.
"He had no authority, no right to do what he did," Arpaio said. "If they are illegal, it's not the biggest crime in the world. Where is the justification to pull a gun on a minor kind of crime?
"I have a lot of respect for the military, and I know the mentality over there. On the other hand, military are not above the law, too, when they are out here in the private sector in getting involved with this kind of situation. You could get killed or you could kill someone else, and it's not worth it.
"Don't take the law into your own hands."
And the County Attorney echoed the Sheriff's words:
Thomas urged citizens to recognize the risk of making a citizens' arrest, and reminded the public that the right of citizens' arrest is available under very specific circumstances and if engaged in unlawfully will result in prosecution.
BTW, the County Attorney was recently elected and is a big Second Amendment supporter. I think a much needed improvement over the previous guy.
I wonder if they realized that he was just doing what he was sworn to do? Like defend the US constitution and all that?
He never had so much as the smallest of chances of being dragged into court over this. If he was any good lawyer would have made them admitt that they were trying to make him disobey his oath.

Is it illegal to pull a gun on a burglar in Arizona? Because that's what illegal aliens are.

What puzzles me about the story is that even after their confrontation was over, the perp continued the encounter after they had retreated into their vehicle.

LOL that's certainly a stretch Mr. Thomas. No where was it ever mentioned that the perp witnessed what he thought was 'human smuggling'. Talk about being soft on crime.
I wonder if Haab can be sued in civil court for what he did?
Interest thing is that AZ state woman rep was speaking on Sean Hannity's show for the AZ Democrat Caucus and the ACLU and stated that people entering the USA illegally face 1 year in prison and a $5000 fine for each person
Add to that state and federal illegal documents in possession and used in the USA illegally of illegal aliens and you have serious felonies
