I really don't know about kids, But don't most mothers usually stop breast feeding before 1 year?
Mothers should be encouraged to breast feed as long as possible or desired. The health benefits to the child are enormous! Scientists have never been able to duplicate (or come even close) to the properties of breast milk.

My neighbor breastfed her son until he was three and a half years old. Isn't that extreme?

Scientists have never been able to duplicate (or come even close) to the properties of breast milk. Or the dispensing system, either.
