Had someone call in the middle of dinner last night for donations to the GOP senatorial committee. When I said we weren't too happy with GOP senators right now and were giving to local causes where we could get more bang for our buck the poor guy had to leave his cue cards... he couldn't do it ... just kept stammering about stopping the democrats. Yeah, right - like the senate has even been TRYING to do that.
I remember when Laura went off on Arlen The Speck (RINO-PA).
She was right then also.
I have contributed to various Republican causes over the years. However, I am getting fed up with the attitude of Republican Congressmen. You act like you're in the minority.As a result of this, I'm stopping my contributions until the following items are resolved:
1. Adopt the "constitutional option" so we can get some decent judges on the bench. We'll need this eventually for SCOTUS, why not get it over with?
2. Approve John Bolton's appointment to ambassador to the UN.
3. A. STOP the avalanche of criminal aliens pouring over our southern border.
3. B. Deport criminal aliens who are already here.
3. C. Move the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program from pilot program to passed and enforced law with very severe penalties for companies that employ criminal aliens. Here's a link: http://uscis.gov/graphics/services/SAVE.htm
Another waste of time. The GOP has no spine in any sense of the word, and the one that does they have turned on and seem eager to be rid of. Forget about them.
Oh, how I wish it were possible.
What I mean, is that IF, my call to "my" Senators, had a "snowballs chance in hell," of being considered (much less even listened to, without having one of the staff, hang up on me--as has happened in the past) I would gladly do so.
As an aside, my (Vermont) Senators are: Pat (he who leaked classified information and has a voting record at least as liberal than Ted Kennedy) and, Jumpin Jim Jeffords, who now that he has decided not to seek reelection, will be even more intransigent and anti-Bush/Repub/Conservative, etc., than he has been for the past 20 years--IF That's POSSIBLE.

It's plainly obvious they didn't have the votes two years ago...I'm not sure they have them now. It isn't the entire Republican side of the Senate...it's the McCains of the Senate. We can thank Bush for building the majority and now it's time to attack the minority of Republicans who neither understand why they are in the majority or deserve our financial support.
I agree that 2 years ago they didn't have the votes, so they shouldn't have made the threat then. But when you have the votes and keep making idle threats, the other side just ignores you, or worse, use it against you and to their benefir "we stopped them from destroying the senate!". Truth is, neither Lott nor Frist have the testicular fortitude for leadership. They're gutless wonders.
Okay, I understand what you meant by threatening two years ago. I can't, just yet, put Frist in the same category as Lott though. Trent was content to be a Senator for the rest of his life and spray his hair for Sunday talk show appearances. Frist, on the other hand, played his cards just right last session. The Dems had all of the spine you talk about then lost seats as a result and put the Republicans in a better position.
What they do with their position is critical to me too but I'm trying to resist keeping daily score. I say turn up the heat on them and judge by the final results.
There is one way.....call the local talk radio shows in the major cities of your state.

Enough with the games. It's as if the RINOs think they can just pretend to fake an effort and that is enough.
Nope. Trying is lying. Get it DONE. Get a cloture vote. If it fails, get another . and another... and one every hours night and day until everyone is sick of them.
Then have a procedural vote to change the rules so that filibuster of nomination can pass with only 50 votes, if there were 2 previous cloture votes. In other words, you need 3 readings of the nomination.
Try to pass it.
If you fail there, go to a 'ruling from the chair' that filibusters on nominations are against the majority rule as implied by the advice and consent clause of the Constitution... see also the Ballin case. Have a vote on the ruling of the chair.
Then have at. VOTE ON THE JUDGES UP OR DOWN.
ALL OF THE ABOVE SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED BY NOW. IT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE LAST SESSION IN CONGRESS. NOW IS THE TIME TO DO IT.
