An article in The Hill reports that Senator Rick Santorum is backpedalling on the move toward a showdown on the judicial filibuster issue. The main reason seems to be poll results that are being kept under wraps.
Here’s the main way the GOP is erring, in my opinion: instead of saying that judicial nomination filibusters will be eliminated, the GOP obviously should be saying that nomination filibusters simply have to be limited, to a year for example. NO AVERAGE AMERICAN IN HIS OR HER RIGHT MIND WOULD OPPOSE SHUTTING UP SENATORS AFTER AN ENTIRE YEAR OF FLOOR DEBATE ON A NOMINATION

A year? No way. I'd limit all filibusters to 2 weeks at most. It is supposed to be a delaying tactic used to gain some time to convince other Senators that they are doing something rash. It should not be used to prevent the majority from acting on anything, because then, it will take 60 votes to do anything in the Senate, and then nothing will get done.
Hang on a second before we hang Santorum in effigy. Let's stay focused on the next week, which apparently will be critical. These Republicans (and ESPECIALLY Santorum) know that their political futures are dead if they betray us on the judiciary. Let it play out first.
And if they DON'T know, let's make it very very clear to them.

Don't waste your time e-mailing.
Bring up one of the judges whom the dims will filibuster. Let them filibuster. When the people get good and sick and tired of seeing these fools, especially that klown, Byrd, in the news every night, then vote to change the rule.
As it is now, only a small minority of people even know what this filibuster thing is all about. So when they're polled on it they instinctively vote not to "cut off debate." Let them see with their own eyes what a filibuster is and they'll see that a filibuster is a way to avoid democracy, not part of it.
We need to make good on that promise if we ever want to put a stop to this sort of "weak sister" representation.
Is anyone else sick and friggin' tired of watching those preening a-hole democrats act like they own the joint, when election after election, we kick their asses all over the place?

I just called the Senator's DC Office and asked if it was truen that the Senator is backing off the constitutional option of stopping democrat fillibusters.. The lady answering the phone said "I can't speak for the Senator". Hello! That is your job! Considering she can't speak for the Senator I take that it is true.

Ah, the Constitution of Santorum. What a time-tested document it is. What would we do without it?
If you mean that their repeated electoral defeats are driving dems to act nutty and that the nuttiness leads to further electoral defeats, my answer is "maybe".
But that still doesn't address the failure to move aggressively and authoritatively on the issue of the president's nominations, most importantly, judicial nominations.
It is now even more evident what a bunch of gutless arseholes the GOP pols are.
Wearing thundering boots they enter stage right, loudly proclaiming to voters all the great things they will do, if only they achieve a majority.
Yet, once in that position of power, they slither fearfully around the stage silently in silken slippers, accomplishing, "NOTHING."
I am ready to wash my hands of the bloody GOP lot, they are worthless cowards, or worse yet, damnable liars.

There is almost NO political price to be paid on this, unless you consider it a "political price" to have the elite media say nasty things about you.
To HELL with what the "polls" say about the "nuclear option" and John Bolton. Good God in His High Heaven, no one, and I mean no one is going to base a vote on how their Senator voted on John Bolton or Senate rules changes. NO ONE.
It's just like Campaign Finance Reform. Gutless wonders allowed themselves to be bullied into thinking the American People were clamoring for "reform" so those gutless pukes went for that blatantly unconstitutional bill (including Bush). But nobody cared, really. If they had stood up and done the right thing it wouldn't have made any difference come election day 2004. None.

I watched him give a speech this morning on FNC calling for Bolton's immediate confirmation.
