"Everyone may think I am bizzare but I feel that many of the children who are diagnosed with Autism, actually have had too much input from tv and the brains developed differently. "
Whether autisim is caused by this overexposure to electronic stimulation, I don't know, but I am very sure that human beings weren't designed for this kind of constant TV, video games, music being pounded into our heads 24/7/365. I have tried to limit it with my children (wish I had limited it more when they were younger), and even now that they are grown I try to encourage them to have quiet times. It just seems to me that none of us can achieve a healthy balance in our lives with all that noise-- we need time to think our own thoughts, to daydream, etc..
It is my belief that one component in the rise of autism is the relative decrease in the exposure of most parents/older siblings to their preschoolers. Rush them to the babysitter (where the babysitter is likely to turn on Barney or Sesame Street), transfer them to the "early learning center" where they learn how to handle keyboards rather than share toys, have both parents and the older siblings (if any) be in the commute or at work or school/afterschool over 10 hours a day... This may impair abilities of those preschoolers to work with others. I would think some of those who have trouble figuring out hon their own how to do that wind up with autism diagnoses.
Compare this to the old order Amish, where there is no electronic entertainment, no getting away from the family and all the siblings (unless one is alone in a field or walking down a road), etc.
This may be true. My stepson, who is 27(I married his mother when he was 18), is so typical of many in his generation. He has had TV, MTV, Walkmans, MP3 players etc available all his life, and now can't stand his own company. He needs constant stimulation either electronically or of the human kind. I find it very interesting how many kids today are like that. I used to and still do love my quiet time.
