It is also a public heath issue. If not for vaccines many more than one in 166 children would die from the diseases that vaccines prevent. These diseases used to run in epidemics killing thousands. If a child is vaccinated, not only do they not get the disease themselves, but they do not pass the disease on to others.

Aren't you forgetting that those epidemics occurred PRIOR to all the medical wonders that have since developed? You seem quite comfortable with the amount of children damaged by these vaccines. Why are they expendible? Do you have an autistic child? I do. And it occurred after his second round of the MMR vaccine. Luckily he is on the higher end of the spectrum. My perfectly healthy child was damaged so that the 'greater good' of having a vaccine dependent society can continue. The more I learn about autism the more I have become cynical with the medical profession and the pharmaceutical industry.

In a very real sense, parents who vaccinate their children are the ones who make it possible for children who are not vaccinated to live relatively safe, disease free lives, because it is these vaccinated kids which prevent the widespread epidemics that used to kill thousands.

In a very real sense, a not-so-small amount of perfectly healthy children have been irrevocably committed to a lifetime of health problems with NO compensation or redress from these pharmaceutical companies. In a very real sense, they are being told, "Too bad, but we're not monetarily liable for our product that damaged your child." These affected families have a new set of worries, worries that will affect their families' quality of life, money will be scarce, treatments are not covered by insurance companies. The list goes on and on. I will always worry about my little boy as he grows older. According to people like you, it's horrible at what happened to him but it is still worth it that my child was damaged. Thank you very much!

Why would you think that? I don't see anyone as expendable. I am thankful for vaccines however, because they have saved millions of lives.

Thank you so much for your post. And it's not just the pharmaceutical companies who are at fault here.

By turning a blind eye like the cigarette companies in the 80s, so are the pediatric organizations, public health organizations, and the media. All of these push the full vaccination schedule on such tiny infants, in part because they are a captive audience. The medical and public community thinks that they could never get the shots into the kids at later ages.

How was I to know as a young mom that there even could have been an alternative to the vaccines? I still don't know if that caused the problems in my son, but "the greater good" doesn't help our families who have had to struggle with what we may have done to our children.

You are proving the point I keep trying to make with people who are untouched by this personally: Ask the man who owns one.

I appreciate their seeming logic, untouched as it is by our reality, but I don't think it's good logic, either. The alternatives are being hushed up for the sake of $$$$$, as usual.

For everyone who reads this and thinks vaccinations are valid in spite of the outcome for some children (more and more, it turns out, as they get more and more aggressive with them): study homeopathic nosodes as a viable alternative -- I said VIABLE.
