LIVE THREAD: Senate Coverage AND Senate Foreign Relations Committee vote on Bolton nomination
C-span
Posted on 04/19/2005 11:07:48 AM PDT by ken5050
OK..here's what we know..Senate is in recess for the weekly party caucus luncheons. Supposed to resume at 2:15. on C-span 2.. The Foreign Relations committee is supposed to meet at 2:45 to vote on the Bolton nomination. Lugar has refused requests for a delay. Just before the Senate recessed, Reid objected to Frist's UC request for the Froeign Relations committee to meet today. Frist withdrew his request..

You are correct, and in luck..there will be nothing in the committee on C-span 3 until after the vote to adjourn in the full senate..I was contemplating using "picture in picture" feature...but it was too much to fathom..

This fron CSPAN:,p>
The Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader have the prerogative of selecting and nominating an individual for the post in their respective chambers. Their candidate must then be elected by majority vote of the full chamber, but this is a mere formality. Probably not a mere formality anymore - if they didn't have a Sgt-At_arms, I guess they couldn't enforce the rules ... I wouldn't put it past the RATs to try that one ...

thanks to you and ken...
I think I "got it"...It's awful coming into senate procedures late...at least I have a hard time understanding wht the heck is going on. Electing a pope is MUCH easier to understand!!!
One more dumb qustion....will the whole senate vote on Bolton today after the committee meets and votes. (and I'm assuming Bolton will get through the committee. )
Folks here sound so upbeat and sure....I just can't quit worrying till it's a done deed...not with these snakes on the other side.

No--they won't vote in the full Senate yet--probably on Thursday, although they may have to recess Thursday if the dems on the judiciary committee don't want to show up, like Senator Kyl predicted...

Haha, point taken...
If there was any doubt about it, read the 70-odd post thread about the latest Cuban "elections."
If 5 on that thread saw them for what they were, I would be surprised.
The overall sentiment was "Cuba is much freer than the United States" and anyobody who disagreed was bashe (and banned).
