Unless the book has been revised over the last couple of years, it's a piece of trash. I think most of the "Dummies" books are excellent, but the one on Catholicism is junk. It keeps mentioning the Kennedys -- yes, as in Big Fat Ted Kennedy -- which should give you some indication of how low-brow (not to mention passe ) it is. I don't like to be negative, but I strongly recommend you not give that book to anyone sincerely interested in Catholicism.

After I read it, it would go to my friend with my red-lines if needed, or it goes to the barbecue. It wont be the first book to visit Mr Weber...

utahagen, I'm wondering if you aren't confusing "Catholicism for Dummies" with "The Complete Idiots Guide to Understanding Catholicism".
I've had both, and the latter is indeed nothing but tripe -- I knew I was in trouble with all the references to the Kennedies, and the glowing description of that anti Vietnam war priest (whose name I can't quite remember now. Benigan?).
However, I found the "Dummies" book (which is only 2 years old, BTW) to be a pretty good refresher for this once-lapsed Catholic. It's written by Fr. Trigilio from EWTN, and is dedicated to Mother Angelica. The "Idiots" book went in the trash; the "Dummies" guide sits next to my CCC.
