Many of these questions are being asked and he is straight forward in his answers. Pope Benedict XVI seems to be actually quite ecumenical and understanding. Everyone ought to cool it until the correct statements can be attributed to this man. the MSM desperately wants to damage his influence, and they will take sentences out of context, just like they do with GW Bush.
There is no way that this man thinks everyone who is not Catholic is not saved. In fact he has actually stated publicly that Europe should take a lesson from the energetic Christianity evident in the USA!

People will do what they can to smear the man. The new Pope is very much a Christian first more than anything. He is too Bible savy to believe what your SIL says. Read his recent homily. I think a renewal of Catholicism in Western Europe will actually lift all Christian's boats ... a flood of renewal of faith. We are all the better for it.
