Ratzinger seems to be already the Leader of the Church. The Holy Spirit seems to have already been upon him. The College of Cardinals seems to have been guided to simply acknowledge that fact.

Pope Benedict XVI: I take this to mean he does not war, if it can be helped. I take it to mean he looks to the example of St. Benedict in promoting what the Religious Life should be, and in this I think this may be a tremendous sign, which just came to me. I hope that he is the man to knot together the whip with cords and purge the church. I think this is his destiny.

If a German Pope can ignite a revival in Western Europe, that would make this worthwhile all in itself.

The left is greatly saddened. And angered.

Your comment on the new Pope reviving the Church Germany and Western Europe was my though exactly. As I told my father earlier today, a healthy Church cannot allow rot and atrophy to creep into its own back yard. Picking a Pope from a Western European country that is particularly deep in nihilism and all the bad traits of Western Culture is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit, just as was the selection of a little-known polish cardinal on the eve of the collapse of the Eastern Bloc.

john, I had hoped that my heart could be open to love our new Pope, but with Cardinal Ratzinger's election, I already love him.

I think you're correct on all account, and I can only add that EWTN said he's a man of extraordinary gifts and I'm certain his election signifies unity in our Church and a tribute to John Paul the Great as well.

Yesterday, (in anticipation of his election) I was reading some of the writings he penned with JPII: http://www.religioustolerance.org/rcc_othe.htm

Lastly, although I find it disgusting, there is some sense of fun in listening to the MSM whine and bemoan what they see as his shortcomings...lol... one outlet even called him a "hardline conservative." LOL.
