Yes he is. He converted to Catholicism as a child.
To: MadIvan
Excommunications; Inquisition; geez, Ivan, if you would add Laz's platform of immediate re-start of Crusades, I'd be willing to change my vote. 'Course Florida votes don't count anyway.
To: Lazamataz
Be careful.
He hasn't answered yet if he is a priest. Then we have to pray he doesn't get lucky.
To: johnb838
john, I had hoped that my heart could be open to love our new Pope, but with Cardinal Ratzinger's election, I already love him.
I think you're correct on all account, and I can only add that EWTN said he's a man of extraordinary gifts and I'm certain his election signifies unity in our Church and a tribute to John Paul the Great as well.
Yesterday, (in anticipation of his election) I was reading some of the writings he penned with JPII: http://www.religioustolerance.org/rcc_othe.htm
Lastly, although I find it disgusting, there is some sense of fun in listening to the MSM whine and bemoan what they see as his shortcomings...lol... one outlet even called him a "hardline conservative." LOL.

Lazamataz, what is it with you. Are you just a sicko, I don't think you are a conservative at all, I'm not sure why they don't just ban you. Some people love me, some people hate me.
I'll put you in column B.

MSNBC reports that the Holy Father won by four votes!
_________________________________________________
115*.75 = 86+25
round it up to 87 because he had to have 75% if 75% is right.
87+4 = 91
or if it is two-thirds as I think
115*.67 = 77.05
round it up to 78
78+4 = 82
So clearly this Pope quickly got the votes of a huge majority of the Cardinals.

"I don't know that a priest is required to join a particular order."
There are two main categories of priests--diocesan and order priest. Basically, diocesan are organized structurally by region in dioceses ( a geographical area). Most folks associate "priests" with the diocesan priests.
But there are also "orders" of priest's (such as the Benedictines) that are formed into groups based on a non-geographical border. They group more along a "type of spirituality (charism). (Benedictines are associated with great teaching and give the Jesuits a run for their money.)
These orders have a "command structure" apart from the diocesan system. They don't answer directly to a Bishop, but to their order's Superior who answers to the Vatican directly. The current pope, I'm quite sure has always been a diocesan priest. (They can switch with permission.)
An interesting aside is that their were no diocesan priest named "Saint" until St. John Vianney, the Cure de Ars (France).

The MSM hates Blessed Titus Brandsma because of pamphlets he'd edited. When the late Pope was failing, they howled about his setting the beatification of Titus in motion. (He volunteered to take the place of another inmate...of Dachau, I think...who was to be executed.) God forgives us our sins without nitpicking, and is especially thrilled when the lost sheep come home. We should be, too.

And the coolest thing about this is that the liberal MSM is obviously disappointed, just like Election Day 2004, 1988, 1984, 1980... Hmmm. Wonder what colors Katie Couric will wear tomorrow?

So are you a nun?
Sorry I assumed you were a man.
To: diogenes ghost
If I was made Pope, our present Holy Father would look like a moderate in comparison. Restarting the Crusades would be a given.

Fraid not, Laz. You're part of "the world" spoken of in John 3:16 that God loved enough to send His Son, Jesus to die for.
Greater love hath NO man, Laz.
I know you're joking on the surface, but I'm talking about the truth underneath.
