Yes, I know.

But nothing God asks of me precludes me from having an opinion about the subject matter of his decision; only that I surrender to his will once he makes the decision.

Besides, I think Ratzinger is the right guy for the job.

Yes, Ratzinger is indeed a good choice. The liberals hate him! I think I can turn on the tv now. It will be great fun to see the MSM weep in their lattes, wail, and gnash their teeth :)

Who is McBrien?

Are you kidding? ;-)

"Father" McBrien is a left-wing "priest" that the MSM trot out whenever an issue involving Catholicism comes up. He never fails to please (them)!

IMHO, the countries with a thriving Church do not need someone to represent them as badly as those either a) oppressed b) overcome by athesism/secularism/humanism.

A Pope from Germany just makes sense.

EXCELLENT point.

You don't know that in 1933 some of the first inmates of Dachau were Catholic priests, Catholic labor union leaders, and Center (Catholic) Party politicians

Blessed Titus Brandsma, for one...

MSNBC reports that the Holy Father won by four votes!

I believe that they meant to say "was elected on the fourth ballot". We will never know how many votes were cast for Pope Benedict, but we know it was at least two thirds, and that he was chosen faster than nearly every other pope.

The work of the Holy Spirit, IMO. Thanks Be To God!

Well, MSBC is doing its "only four votes" bit to try to deny this pope a "mandate."

Same playbook, different game.

In short, the MSM hates serious Christians of all types --- born again Bush or rottweiler Pope.

It's a stretch, but the Benedictans are also known as the Olivetans.

I'm so tired of this Malachy nonsense. The Olivetan congregation was one among many reform Benedictine groups of the later Middle Ages. And to go from Malachy's "Olive" to Olivetan is just word association and to go from the Olivetan congregation to "Benedectine" in general is nonsense and then to associate Benedict XVI with "Benedictine monks"--that's four absurd leaps by mere word association in a row.

Astrology, clarivoyants etc. all depend on leaps like this--if you try hard enough, you can connect just about anything with anything. The Malachy stuff is utter nonsense. But those who have become adepts of it are so crazed by it that they can't even hear these sorts of objections.

Well, it's sop in their demodimwit eyes, but it is blasphemy in my eyes!

I didn't know they could even get into a church without withering and screeching to death. The devil has sure come a long way since The Omen and other movies, al baby.

I read on a forum here that quoted an official Church document that, in fact, an account OF EACH VOTING SESSION RESULTS IS KEPT AND SEALED AWAY. IT CAN BE OPENED ONLY WITH THE EXPLICIT PERMISSION OF THE PONTIFF.

MSNBC reports that the Holy Father won by four votes!

That is bull... MSNBC is so low.. they think they know the votes. Wrong... The votes were burned and no one will ever know. No matter how hard they try they loose.

The vote was 3/4 plus 1 of all Cardinals voting. If 118 Cardinals voted that would mean that Cardinal Ratzinger got at least 80-90 votes.

And the thinking might be better to go with a solid orthodox candidate with a lot of experience and proximity to JP II. Also, the cardinals may be aware there is a very dire need to try to revive Europe on a Christian/Catholic basis. Reviving Catholicism on the right - among the orthodox and conservatives - is a geopolitical move as well as a theological and moral one. He will face down the "culture of death" cabals.

At first I wanted Cardinal Arinze. But the more I thought about Cardinal Ratzinger, the more sense it made.

It fits perfectly in the Malachy's and Nostradamus profecies. Not that I'm surprised, but how exactly?

I assume you meant celibate.

Ah peace maybe, but I don't think love is the right word.
