Agreed. Reports are that his health is excellent. JPII bless his soul, suffered from parkinson's which over time (as we've seen) takes a severe toll.

Hmmm. Wonder how long it will be before the leftists will be pining against his health? Would not surprise me. IIRC there was some feminazi who hoped that Clarence Thomas' wife would feed him lots of bacon & eggs, for obvious reasons...

""LIberal Catholics are SO 20th century!"

They are going to feel it from this lion of God. "

This is the deal: Orthodox believing and practicing Catholics are going to know they will never be undercut from above. Meanwhile, the liberals pressing for such things as contraception, married clergy, and priestesses will find little to no consolation from above.

I am glad that Cardinal Ratzinger has been elected pope, he is conservative and worked closely with JPII. I read on the Fox News website (or it may have been Drudge) that he basically denounced all other Christian denominations as false. The article speculated that these views (if they are true) would end cooperation between Catholics and other Christians.
Do you know if this is true? I hope it's not, it would be good for all Christians to work together as much as possible. We may disagree on some things, but we have the same basic belief.

The father of one of my dearest friends was forced to be a Nazi. He found a way to sneak his family out of Germany. Then he was killed. My friend would have been forced to be a Nazi also, had the family not escaped. I have no disdain for him or his father.

We who did not live there during that time, or live through those days at all, have no way of knowing the anguish many suffered under that regime. If the people who now are so opposed to the Nazis had acted then, before Hitler became so powerful and his insane leadership went unchallenged for so long, the world would have been much different.

I hope that"JustPiper", who appears to have a problem with something that Pope Benedict XVI was forced into and had no way to control when he was young, will now take an active role against the Nazi movements in America, speak out against them, and leave the Pope alone. Pick your targets wisely!

What's disgusting is how the media plays politics with a great world religion. Popes are going to be critical of war because they believe in love, peace, redemption, nonviolence (not necessarily pacifism though). Ditto their opposition to abortion. These are deeply religious, spiritual beliefs that place Popes on a higher moral plain than presidents and politicians of any party. I don't know all the Dalai Lhama's beliefs but I'm sure he and all world religious leaders have a profound spiritual approach that transcends everyday secular life. The liberals go around childishly wanting the Pope to endorse drinking, adultery, drugs, abortion, promiscuity. How absurd.

I'm not aware of earlier comments, but I'd think having a man as Pope who wasn't perfect as a young man, but who found his way to God...would be wonderful and should be a source of great hope for everyone.

A certain Apostle comes to mind, denied Christ on several occasions, had a temper,etc...his name escapes me at the moment;)

Rush is waiting for some leftist media outlet to call him "the Panzer Pope".

I have heard some of his holiness' strongest admirers call him the Panzer Cardinal in former times - in an affectionate manner mind you.

"I am struck by the witness to Christianity being made by its foe- the MSM."

That has struck you also? Isn't it amazing - one of the great enemies of Christianity broadcasting the message of the Gospel? They can't get away with cutting it out - those silly Catholics WILL keep talking about Jesus and the good news of salvation in His name.

I don't happen to be Catholic - but I have been taking joy in the name of Christ and the blessings of the gospel being held up on the national media!
