Interesting. St. Malachy in the 11th century wrote that the third to last pope would be born when the sun was blotted out and exit when same (John Paul II was born and buried on days of a solar eclipse). The next to last pope would be a "man of olives" and serve until 2008 - could this cardinal be the "man of olives"?
The next Pope will reign until 2008? No one can know that.
Those prophecies, written in the 12th century, are private prophecies and are not part of the Catholic "deposit of faith." I don't believe they should be interpreted as eschatological.
That's NOT what Malachy wrote. Malachy simply called him De Labore Solaris. "From the Labor of the Sun." A Roman name for eclipses is similar: Birth of the Sun.
