"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thout the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"
-- Matt 7:1-3
For why should I be judging outsiders? Is it not your business to judge those within? God will judge those outside. Many non-Christians in particular love to quote Matthew 7:1-3---and ironically, as 1 Cor 5 above suggests, they have some justification---though the conveniently fail to put any weight on verses they don't like.
-- 1 Cor 5:12-13a
But please don't misunderstand, I share the condemnation of this pastor and his tactlessness (and likely his error as well). I'm just saying that whipping out that verse from Matthew really isn't as helpful as it might first appear.
Yes. Interesting that the Reverand forgot about this scripture while judging people for calling someone other than God father.
It's an easy trap to fall into, quoting scripture AT people, because as sure as anything, while accusing someone else of not following Biblical teachings, there's a whole lot of Biblical teachings that the accuser can be found to have broken.
Read the rest of the chapter. We are told to judge righteous judgement later.
There are certain judgements we are not allowed to do, such as judgements we have no business doing because it would be hypocritical. One of these areas is who is saved or not.
Now, we do have the right to seriously question, but we can't say for sure somebody is going to hell within the church.
Of course, we all know anybody who doesn't truly accept Christ.....as the Scripture testifies about him and not in some other false gospel version.....will go to hell.
The question is.....would God allow a teacher of heresy into his kingdom?
