JERUSALEM - Israel will not attack Iran to destroy its nuclear program, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Wednesday, a day after meeting President Bush in Texas.
Sharon told CNN he did not see "unilateral action" as an option. He said Israel did not need to take a leading role in attempts to deny nuclear weapons to Iran and called again for an international coalition to deal with the issue.
Sharon said Iran was years away from possessing a nuclear weapon but only months away from overcoming "technical problems" in building one.
"Once they will solve it, that will be the point of no return," he said.

Um, this doesn't sound right to me. Maybe Sharon is messing with the mullah's medulla oblongatas?
Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.

Now on ABC online too. Interesting statement, to say the least. I grow curiouser and curiouser about the Israeli P.M. over the last few years. Perhaps some of our Freepers from that country can give us their thoughts here.

I have never had any doubt that Israel would do all within it's power to ensure that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon. So disinformation is the most logical conclusion I can reach.
Is it possible that Sharon is telling the truth? I sure hope not.

Whether you like it or not (and I do not like it), Iran will have nuclear weapons. Its not a moot point.
The issue that has to be made clear to the Mullahs and Imans is this: If there is any use of nuclear weapons by Iran or other Muslim entity, Iran will be "glassed".
The basics are simple: Imans and the like do not want to die. They encourage others to do so as they enjoy the power and pleasures of earthly living.

There is going to be a very large "industrial accident" at an Iranian nuclear facility..

You remember the drill. First there will be a request for the UN to impose strict sanctions on Iran. Russia and France will opt out, then because diplomatic measures wont work and Iran will have nuclear technology for energy, there will ba a coalition of the willing sent in.

If Iran gets a nuke, they will use a nuke.
Any and all measures to prevent that must be taken.

Actually it makes sense for him to say this. Why should Israel have the bear the fallout from a unilateral attack on Iran, if this is the entire world's problem. By making it clear that Israel will not clean up this mess it forces everyone else to do their part.

If you de-Clintonize Sharon's comments (ie. read between the lines)....
he did not see "unilateral action" as an option.
He said Israel did not need to take a leading role
called again for an international coalition Israel WILL/DOES have allies, and information is coming from other countries that will "lead" to the ultimate goal.
but only months away from overcoming "technical problems" ...."Once they will solve it, that will be the point of no return,"
it doesnt matter how far away a working nuke is, once the skills are there, "It's Miller time" and Israel's coalition will start the party.

If Iran gets a nuke, they will use a nuke. They will also see that the nuke is not a weapon of any great use. The threat of use is something, but the actual use would be counterproductive.

I don't think there is much of a threat of them using a nuke as an instrument of state policy. The danger is that they supply a terrorist organization to detonate it by proxy.
Also, it is customary to say that one desires only peace while preparing for war. This doesn't mean that Sharon has any plans to take on Iran, but a mere statement rules out nothing. We'll see where this goes. Will Khamenei be another Darius III?
