Marysecretary, my other daughter who is now 17 is MID - mildly intellectually disabled. Her IQ is about 70. Having lived through my first daughter's special ed experience, where she was labeled slow and stupid, my message to the school system regarding my second daughter was: I don't care about academics; I just want her self-esteem intact and healthy when she leaves the 1-12K educational world. In other words: Keep your hands off my daughter's psyche!

So far it's worked, and my 17 year old is more prepared than my 23 year old.

My 23 year old took Ritalin etal. My 17 year old's problems are not affected by meds.

You've certainly been through it all! My sister was always told why weren'tyou as smart as your sister! Well, she ran away from home and school when she was 14 and has always led a wretched life. She died two years ago and I hope she's found the peace she'd always been searching for. Self esteem is so important in young people, especially. Congratulations on your fight to keep her balanced! Love, Maryxxx
