"The 'women like bad boys or jerks' is a strawman - it's mostly repeated by men who consistently don't do well in attracting women and sexually exciting them."

I one time had a designer working for me who did have a thing for "bad boys" and jerks. She was extremely attractive, and otherwise quite intelligent. It was just every once in a while (well, more often than that) she would show up at work with bruises on her face. Yep, the latest Mr. Sleaze she just found beat the cr@p out of her.

There is truth in advertising - jerky guys will act jerky, and sometimes even violent. A shame that too many women mistake their traits as something desireable.

I didn't read the article, since I figured it wasn't directed at me...

But your namesake, who is my major inspiration, had something to say (that I'm sure you are aware of) that probably has a bearing on why intellects have trouble getting cute girls. Hayek thought that the reason intellectuals run into so much trouble is simply because they place too much value on their intellect.

That being said, I think the poster who said be yourself has it right - your best self, of course.
