Mich. Message Board Says Speed Limit 100
Fri Apr 8, 4:13 PM ET Strange News - AP
VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Drivers on southbound Interstate 75 got a surprise Thursday morning from a construction message board. The board, which for weeks had been alerting drivers in Genesee County near Clio that construction starts this month, instead greeted them with the message: "speed limit 100 mph go go go."
"We got a call from the state police before 5 this morning (Thursday) and we took care of it," Bill Shreck, regional spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation, told The Flint Journal. "We weren't amused."
The speed limit in the area is 70 miles per hour, Shreck said. The sign was the only MDOT message board affected.
The message boards are controlled remotely by a computer through a subcontractor, Shreck said. That company is looking into who changed the board and how.
"We know it wasn't a purposeful act by the contractor, but we don't know if it was hacked into or if it was a disgruntled employee or what," Shreck said.

I wish it was all 100. I could get to Downtown Lansing in 20 minutes, Grand Rapids in an hour, and up north in 90 minutes....legally. ;)

I know where that's at. I drove through there once on a campaign-related work trip. I didn't complain about the assignment. :)
My family has a cottage near Grayling. My uncle has hunting land and a new cabin near Waters. It's God's country up there.

For most crappy econocars, anything over 80 is academic, because they can't do it.

LOL. Unless they move the capitol to where I'm at, I have to go there. I don't want to live there - or worse - East Lansing(Like the students, despise their city government).

No, I"m not a cop. But I do drive a Ford Crown Victoria with the police interceptor package.
And I enjoy it very much.

I see some of those things on the road. When I see one, it never fails to scare the hell out of me for a minute since there's at least 2, if not 3 unmarked deputy sheriff's cruisiers in my county. I can tell two of them miles away, but I think there's a third.
Especially since my record's now clean(I got screwed by the ELPD when I got a ticket after being rearended in an accident), and I'd like to keep it that way.

LOL! It's good to see someone in this country still has a backbone, a sense of humor, and some American know-how.
On most interstates, there shouldn't even be a speed limit (and if so, it should be around 80-85), save for the "safe and prudent" approach that Montana used before the feds blackmailed them into shutting that down.

I will never drive any other car. They suit me perfectly for handling, roominess, powerrange (at 70 mpg, third gear is just beginning to spin up), roominess, maintenance-friendliness and roominess.
I do my own maintenance and tuning. I've tweaked every bit of power I can out of it without switching to 93 octane. The powertrain is bloody indestructible.
I'm at 158k. When I'm done with this one, I'll be getting a 2001: horsepower increased by 17%.

Greetings, Dan -- Great story! My one question is, what are the legal ramifications for anyone pulled over and ticketed while the sign was displayed? Would the ticket be thrown out of court or would the gummint still extract its pound of flesh?
Regards,
Lenny
