POPE’S BURIAL ENDS THE LULL—STORM COMING

Catholic League president William Donohue remarked as follows:

“The storm is about to hit. For the most part, anti-Catholic bigots and the disaffected dissidents within the Church have been quiet. What they have been waiting for is about to happen: the week between the end of the mourning and the beginning of the conclave is upon us. And that means the Left is ready to explode.

“Consider what we’ve heard already. Amidst the mostly favorable coverage by the media of Pope John Paul II, he has been branded as follows: an authoritarian who seeks to silence dissent; the enemy of homosexuals; a misogynist; a polarizing figure; a man who is out of touch with the modern world; a contributor to death due to AIDS in Africa; responsible for the sexual abuse scandal; and so on.

“And we’ve heard a CBS newsperson blast the pope for ruling the Church with ‘an iron fist’ (this was said between the final four basketball games on Saturday); the Jewish Forward said whatever good he did may be undermined by his ‘battles around the world for sexual repressiveness and against reproductive freedom’; the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis posted a sign on its property saying, ‘ALL WELCOME, CHRIST IS ALIVE, THE POPE IS DEAD’; the president of the J. Paul Getty Trust commented on ‘the spectacle of grotesquerie and human ruin that has lately filled the balcony above St. Peter’s Square’; Christopher Hitchens said he was ‘part of the coverup and obstruction of justice’ attendant to the homosexual scandal; Sister Helen Prejean, who is soft on abortion, took him to task for not changing his mind soon enough on capital punishment (and in doing so managed to misrepresent his pronouncements on the subject—the pope never said it was an intrinsic evil like abortion); and a website called ‘HillaryNow,’ operated by Robert Kunst, said that when the pope went to Israel, he ordered an ambulance to follow him so that in the event he needed a transfusion, he would not have to access ‘Jewish blood.’

“But this is nothing. Many have been waiting for this moment for more than a quarter century. When they lose again, watch out.”

Why in the world are people so startled by criticism for such a public figure as JP2?

I don't get it. ANY public figure gets criticized, dead or alive? Is this their way of proclaiming that any present or future criticism is bigotry?

When a lefty calls Bush "Hitler" you can assume he's motivated by radical liberalism.

When spreads a story that the Pope doesn't want Jewish blood you can assume he's motivated by anti-Catholic bigotry.

Is that so hard to understand?

Huh? What's with the "Jewish blood"?

"Is that so hard to understand?"

What I am seeing is extreme statements that fail to check the sanity test. It looks like ANY criticism is unwanted.

I must be one of those bigoted, insane leftist radicals because I didn't agree with JP2 on his stance for the war with Iraq and Desert Storm. By being opposed JP2 would have wanted Saddam Insane to continue his ugly regime etc.. BY the kind of opinion he would also have opposed the U.S. getting involved to remove Hitler from power. So by your standards I'm some sort of a leftist too. Oh, well. I don't care.

Hey I like that thing where your eyes bug out and your head spins around. Do it again!
******
Just remember my words, it will be upon you before you know what hit you. I'm only warning, because I DO care. If or when you finally do see and understand....turn to God. Repent...and get away from the two systems that crucified Christ, politics and religion. Its only to late after your heart takes its final beat, and my fellow freeper, that day will come.

I think a storm is about to hit. The news sources have had to sit with what has happened during the last week...literally millions upon millions at John Paul's funeral. Chistians in the world, all of them will see the onslaught that is about to come.... The liberals of the press have to knock down what has happened. They didn't expect the world to actually see the honest goodness in John Paul. We aren't talking just church members. The seeds are already out there begining with Clinton's remark about the Pope's mixed legacy... Thank goodness President Bush set the record straight.

As is custom, Pope John Paul II was entombed in three separate caskets.

Three bags containing gold, silver and copper coins were placed beside the body. Each bag contained one coin for each year in Pope John Paul II's reign, the only monetary compensation he received for his service as pope. The cypress casket was sealed and tied with three red silk ribbons.

The Papal Gentlemen lower the coffin of Pope John Paul II into a tomb that once held the remains of Blessed Pope John XXIII.The cypress casket was lowered into a larger solid zinc (traditionally lead) casket, which was soldered shut. An engraving of Pope John Paul II's name and the dates of his reign, as well as the image of a skull and crossbones adorn the casket. The zinc casket was finally lowered into a larger walnut (traditionally elm) casket, which was shut with nails of pure gold.

Notice that the photo shows the THIRD outer casket.

Link please.

Pardon me if I don't take the word of a person who doesn't know the difference between St. Peter's Square and St. Peter's Basilica.

That's exactly what it is.

The Basilica has not a smaller capacity than the Square. Just compare a football stadium with the square and you will see that this article has the truth - 30,000 fill St Peter's Square

the first questions are: why THREE caskets and why no video/photos, just a photo of the third casket?

That's about the third time I've seen youe deliberately lie about Catholics or the Pope on this forum. "End justifies the means" is a liberal mentality - are you a liberal?

Or perhaps you're just a liar.

Uh, your news article is a typo, considering EVERY OTHER news report puts the estimate at 300,000.

The capacity of the Basilica is 60,000.

The capacity of the Square is 300,000

A search of articles give the 300,000 for many previous events held in the Piazza, so this isn't just a recently invented number.

You are EXTREMELY confused.

No, YOU made an outrageous assertion about the zinc casket having the skull and crossbones on it, and I asked for proof. Don't try to distract the conversation.

You provide proof of your assertion, THEN we'll discuss the rest.

Are you questioning that the image of a skull and crossbones adorn the SECOND casket?

Yes, that is exactly what we are questioning.

And given your problems with perception, I'd say it's a good question.

Let me be more clear: I'm questioning your integrity. I think you're a liar.

I say this because I've seen you post a number of lies with regard to Catholicism and the Pope. This skull and crossbones nonsense is just another example of your idiocy.
