Why not. Notes are not official documents. They're his personal notes. I'd guess he has every right to have them burned after his death if that was his wish.

I can't see the problem.

I understand this easily. I want mine burned too. They are personal and private, notes and writing for myself of use only to me that I can only write knowing no one will read.

I think the holy father would say, "If I wanted them public, I would have made them public."

I'd venture the guess it has something to do with humility.

A virtue so rare in the post Christan western world as to be be rendered virtually unrecognizable.
