I've said it before. I believe that the caravan of charlatans who skewed the Schindler's view of Terri's prospects to suit their own purposes did them a grave disservice, and ought to be ashamed.
Well, as I stated before--dead is dead and the liberals are happy---too bad they aren't ashamed.
You've been brain-washed into thinking this is all a plot of those charlatans for their own political purposes. (Talk about kookiness). The Schindler's believed their daughter could be rehabilitated long before anyone else got involved and always held out hope. 99% of all parents understand this without having to 'read a book'.
"I think it is incredibly cruel to create false hope, particularly when it is done for one's own purposes."
Hi, lugsoul. :)
I don't want to hijack Jim's thread, but I just wanted to add a note of support here, for you, though I've read your posts on Terri and almost always disagree :).
I am not as a member of the WPPFF (though I was very disturbed about the consequences of Jeb or GW intervening, because of the precedent it would set).
I've called and emailed, before Terri's law, on her behalf. But I have to say, during this last fight, once her tube was taken out and a couple of days had gone by, I began to be troubled by the prospect of having that tube taken out by emergency, but then, inevitably, taken out yet a fourth (or even fifth?) time.
At some point we needed to accept the law, as it was at that time, and not put Terri through more "feeding tube in, feeding tube out" scenarios.
I was just worried that even if the executive branch could have intervened, that ultimately, the tube would be ordered out AGAIN and at some point, it becomes cruel.
Especially if you believe, as I do, that she was able to feel pain, hunger, thirst, etc.
I think it will be a long while before we can all stop discussing Terri. And that is at it should be.
Her life served a higher purpose, one that will probably not be clear to us human beings for quite a while.
