I enjoy history as much as the next person but, after 300 years, what difference does it make if a royal mistress was poisoned? Who will be charged and punished for her murder??

Now, if you want to talk about whether or not King Tut was murdered, well, THAT'S different!!!!

It's a difference in basic perspective on scholarship. All knowledge about the past has some value, in this view. A murder, however long ago it took place, is inherently a compelling subject, and if the murder is of the beautiful young mistress of the king you also bring sex, glamor, and politics into the situation! Boy, there's a novel waiting to be written. . .
