But for some strange reason, pits just seem to 'freak out' and go from snuggle bunny to crushing jaws in an instant. I really think there is something dangerously unstable in the breed. If you're going to own one, please live out in the woods and don't have children.

Not that it matters to folks who have their minds made up...but there is nothing inherently unstable about the breed. For crying out loud, pitbulls have been around for over 100 years in this country--Petie from the Little Rascals was a pit, Helen Keller was devoted to her pit, "Sgt Stubby" was the first American War Dog, memorialized at Georgetown for all the lives he saved (he even captured a German spy), and inspired the creation of the K-9 Corps--and was a pit. The US Navy used the pitbull in recruiting posters during WWII. Only recently became all the rage of the "ban the breed" contingent. Mostly due to idiot criminal gangsters who make money breeding and fighting dogs.

This breed is not inherently dangerous. It is not inherently mean. It is not inherently intent to kill. This is common sense, obvious stuff...yet so many are so wedded to the successful campaign against this breed---that they are being euthanized by the thousands every day. But pitbull haters will never listen...no matter how hard you try to make them understand. No matter how right you are. I am with the pit owners in this fight. I've known too many pitbulls and trained too many dogs to think otherwise. In Wisconsin, the same thing happens to owners of Rottweilers, after a pack of them killed a 6 year old girl a few years back in Elroy. Rottweilers, pits, presa canarios, neo mastiffs, cane corsos...they are all on the list somewhere of dog breeds to ban.

Statistically, whenever a child is killed or has an arm ripped off, you will find "pit bull" in the article title. Does this mean the media only reports incidents involving pit bulls, or does it mean that people who raise pits just raise them mean and raw? You tell me.

I have a nephew that was mauled by a rottweiller..
( The owner had it put down immeadiately, no questions asked..)

That said, I still agree with you..
It's not the dog, it's the owner and environment, the training, etc..
Dogs are gregarious animals.. they bond with their families and owners.. become part of the pack.. find their place in the social structure..
A well treated dog, properly trained, is a benefit, not a liability, or a threat..

If one wants to categorize dogs by their breed, then Irish wolfhounds and Afghans ( trained to hunt lions ) should be at the top of the dangerous list..
Where are the "hunting" dogs?? Where are the "war" dogs??
I haven't seen a mention of Dobermans in this entire thread, but it hasn't been that long ago the dobie was considered "the most dangerous dog in america".. vicious and bloodthirsty..
Many have found that dobermans are beautiful, loving animals when raised properly..

Ignore these people if you can..
It's not "PC" to hate people any more, they have just transferred their inadequacy to dogs..
