Before reading the story, the headline almost reminded me of a car crash in Austin, Tx, that was undiscovered for almost a year. Guy went off a road (we have some a lot of hills and curves with a lot of underbrush), and nobody found him until a bit of a drought helped push the vegetation back a bit. He had been reported missing, but nobody could figure out when/where, since nobody saw him leave town, and no traces of him (credit card usage, etc.) showed up.

There was one of those accidents here in the Missouri Ozarks about a year ago. A woman went off the road in her car and there was no hint of her or the wrecked car for three days. She was just lucky to have been noticed by a passenger in a semi who looked down the hillside and saw the wreck.

Did he survive the accident? :-)

I was in the Philippines a few months ago. We traveled some really treacherous mountian roads, getting to Tagaytay, south of Manila. Even if a thousand people saw you go over the edge of that road, no one would ever find you.
