Well, I hope Mr. Bush goes, but I'm also aware that the security requirements he requires are very onerous. So maybe it will, in the end, be more thoughtful for him to send someone else -- an American Catholic of great stature, I presume.
Who would you suggest?

This is a very sad day. May his spirit shine ever brighter in a better place and be at peace.

Did Amanpour just say John Paull II was the first "non-Cathlic" elected Pope?

God bless you for posting that other-worldly shot of Pope John Paul II. It is a great comfort to me at the moment.
Be at peace, our brother, John Paul.
May the angels lead thee
into paradise.
May the martyrs receive thee
At thy coming and take thee
To the holy city.
May the choirs of angels
Receive thee and mayest thou
Have rest everlasting.
Amen.

My condolences to all my Catholic friends in this your time of mourning, I mourn with you. The world was a better place with JPII here.
May God bless his soul, and may we honor JPII with the courage he displayed in standing frimly for human dignity, freedom and the preservation of life.

The Secretary of Veteran Affairs is a Catholic, and was the last Ambassador to the Holy See.

She must have been talking about how he was the first non-Italian elected pope in 445 years or thereabouts...
