>>>Yup, over the last couple of weeks I've been called a religious crank Bible thumping nutcase whackjob....and that's just here on FR.<<<<<

I know, right.

I am not even religious or pro life and I was called those names too because I supported Terri's parents.
To me this is all about common sense and humanity.

You know Proud_texan, you "wacko Bible thumping nut cases" are the grass roots "get out the vote" people who worked so hard in 2002 and 2004 to help Republicans win.
Even Carl Rove admitted that the key to victory was getting the religious base energized. I guess some on here doing the anti-Christian name calling have a short memory.

You guys need to be respected by others in the party, or else the Republicans will experience the "Dying process" politically.

I agree, it was wrong on so many levels. Before I became a Bible thumping whackjob I would have thought so.

I've worked for the party for many, many decades with money, time and shoe leather. I joke that when I first got involved we held the Texas republican convention in a phone booth. That's not much of a stretch.

I never expected anything for that other than to try and keep our republic.

But I really can't blame Republicans, it was me that screwed it up. For way too many years I bought the "liberal judges" election time line. For way too many years I didn't hold the legislative and the executive branch responsible for not taking back the position our founders gave them.

I've been beating the table on this in many threads but before we start putting "our guys" in as judges maybe we need to take a step back and watch out what we wish for. Would a dominate judiciary stacked with "our guys" be any better?

Or would we be better off with the executive and legislative taking over their proper roles (and easily fired?). For instance, and please, I have a lot of respect for President Bush, but he signed CFR saying that part of it was unconstitutional but he expected the SCOTUS to fix it. Huh? What part of swearing to uphold the constitution didn't apply?

We've allowed our legislators to become timid. Congress has the power to set the jurisdiction of the federal court. Ever hear of the Constitution Restoration Act of 2004 that would have limited Federal court jurisdiction? Didn't make it out of commitee.

Congress also has the power to give them a budget of $1.00. Think they'd sit up and take notice? Money talks.

The framers understood this. They saw the judicial as the "weak sister" since the executive wielded the sword and the legislative held the purse strings. Thomas Jefferson warned of the judiciary becoming a "despotic branch" if the other branches didn't do their job.

Our bowing down to the court is relatively recent. When Andrew Jackson was told of a SCOTUS decision he replied "Fine, let them enforce it". The republic survived.

So the question becomes is there a will in the party to do the heavy lifting to rein in the judiciary and not just by putting in "our guys"? I'm coming to believe that either the republican's need to restore the balance of power or we will have lost the republic for good.

Sorry to have rambled on for so long, but I'm the proverbial mad hornet at the moment and not mad at anyone but myself; I let them get away with it.

I was surprised that my local church never mentioned Terri Schiavo.

I don't know if it's "bible thumping" Christians who do the Lord's Work, or if it's really those who uphold their beliefs as Americans, and tend to visit sites like Free Republic and get involved in politics.

The media may be calling "us" bible-thumping wackjobs to keep the REST of our brothers and sisters in line, and discourage them from joining the fight for right.

IF our churches would speak out more, so much evil could be avoided.

But, most churches and church members, stay silent.
